La Pianista Taiwan International Piano Competition 2017

Competition Dates

January 7th (Sat) & 8th (Sun), 2017

Competition Venue and Award Ceremony Concert

Wen Shui Arts and Cultural Center (9F., No.124, Sec. 2, Nanjing E. Rd., Zhongshan Dist., Taipei City 104, Taiwan)

Prizes

1. The first place winner of International category, and 2-year consecutive winners of Elite category will be awarded with a flight ticket to Surabaya Indonesia, to compete in La Pianista Indonesia Competition. The winners of La Pianista Indonesia will be invited to perform in Ciputra Hall.
2. Except for the Performance category, first to third place winners of all categories are invited to perform in Winners’ ceremony concert at Wen Shui Arts and Cultural Center.
3. First and second place winners of Elite category and International category will be awarded with one master class.
4. All the other competitors will receive discount for master classes.
5. All the competitors will receive a copy of their performance video.

Rules

1. Competitor must be of qualifying age on January 7th, 2017.
2. No more than 20 competitors will be admitted to the International Category.
3. Applicants can apply for greater age categories. 
4. Applicants who apply for International Category will automatically be entered for Elite Category (Both application forms must be filled). International Category applicants must submit a DVD or online video (such as youtube) of competitor’s 15-minute performance, as pre-screen audition. The repertoire is of competitor’s choice, and can be same as the competition pieces. If applicants were not accepted from the pre-screening audition, they can still compete in the Elite Category.
5. Deadline: December 9^th, 2016. Competitors must submit Application Form (submit only the applicant’s info and repertoire pages), mail or email to:

6. The competition panel will examine the document sent by the applicants, and make a final approval of the application.
7. Application fees and documents will not be returned to the applicants after the submission.

--Classic Category

Age Under 8: No designated pieces. Perform 1 piece of competitors’ choice

Age 9-12: Perform 1 piece from following choices

1. Burgmüller: 25 Études Faciles et Progressives, Op.100
2. Clementi or Kuhlau: Sonatina Fast movement
3. Prokofiev: Music for Children Op.65     

Age 13-16: Perform 1 piece from following choices

1. Mozart: Sonata Fast movement
2. Scarlatti: Sonata
3. Chopin: Waltz

Age 17-25: Perform 1 piece from Debussy or Rachmaninoff’s composition; or 3 pieces from Prokofiev

1. Debussy: Préludes Livre 1 or Livre 2
2. Rachmaninoff: Preludes Op.23 or Op.32
3. Prokofiev: Sarcasms Op.17

--Elite Category

Age Under 8: Perform 2 Pieces; 1 piece from any of Czerny Op.599 Etudes, and another piece of competitors' choice.

Other age groups: There will be 2 stages. For Preliminary round, choose 1 piece from following choices, for FInal round, choose 1 piece of competitors' choice.

Age 9-12: Perform 1 piece from Grieg or Mendelssohn’s composition; or 2 pieces from Schumann

1. Grieg: Lyric Pieces
2. Mendelssohn: Songs without Words
3. Schumann: Kinderszenen Op.15

Age 13-16: Perform 1 piece from following choices:

1. Beethoven: Sonata (before and including Op.31 No.3) Fast mocement
2. Mozart: Sonata Fast movement
3. Haydn: Sonata Fast movement

Age 17~25: Perform 1 piece from the following choices

1. Chopin: Etudes Op.10 Op.25
2. Kapustin: Eight Concert Etudes for Piano Op.40
3. Liszt: Etudes

--International Category

Age 11~25: Perform 2 pieces of competitors’ choice from different periods within 15 minutes

*International Category Competitors must submit a DVD or online video of competitor’s 15-minute performance, as pre-screen audition. The repertoire is of competitor’s choice, and can be same as the competition pieces.
