Youmee Kim, DMA, NCTM

An active performer, pianist Youmee Kim has appeared in over 100 recitals, concerts, masterclasses, and conference presentations in Canada, Serbia, South Korea, Taiwan, and across the United States. She can be heard on a solo piano CD ‘Journey to America: American Contemporary Piano Music’ (Centaur Records 3631, 2017), which includes Benjamin Lees magnificent ‘Odyssey I and II’ and a world premiere recording of Primosch ‘Pure Contraption, Absolute Gift’.

Her solo performances have been described as “wonderfully articulated, terrific, jaw-dropping, magnificent” and "warm, mature, and lyrical" (Benedetto Lupo, pianist). As an active chamber pianist, Dr. Kim recorded ‘Clarinet Fantasies’ with Rebecca Rischin (Centaur Records 3538, 2017), where their performance was described as “...Kim plays with great suavité allied to great delicacy. Rischin has a superb technique and musicality to match” (C. Clarke, Fanfare Magazine) and her collaborative piano performance as "Kim is perfectly supportive recital partner: imaginative and technically immaculate” (R. Grames; Fanfare Magazine). Her other CDs include ‘Ars Nostra: Persona’ piano duo with S. Lee (Centaur Records 3343, 2014), and ‘Samplings, New Recordings for the Bassoon and Piano’ with M. Morris (MSR Music LLC, 2015). 

A specialist in American contemporary piano music, she has authored a book ‘An Analysis and Performance Guide to Benjamin Lees' Odyssey I and II’ (VDM Verlag, Germany, 2008), and is frequently invited to premiere new pieces, including the live New York premier of Perino’s Piano Sonata n.2.  A dedicated teacher, Dr. Kim has more than 10 years of college teaching experience in Applied Piano, Keyboard Repertoire, Chamber Music, Accompanying Class, Advanced Functional Skills, and Class Piano, and served as a judge for the La Pianista International Piano Competition in Taiwan (Chairperson) and World Piano Teachers Associations International Competition. Dr. Kim received degrees from Ewha Womans University in South Korea (BM), Indiana University (MM and Performer Diploma), and The Ohio State University (DMA) in piano performance where she served as a Graduate Teaching Associate. Dr. Kim served as a faculty at Ohio University in Athens, OH and is currently a faculty at Wright State University in Dayton, OH.

 

Matteo Montanari

Matteo Montanari was born in Ravenna, Italy, and began his musical training at the age of 7. In 1996, he received his conservatory diploma in violoncello studies at the Musical Institute ìG. Verdiî of Ravenna, where he graduated with a perfect grade of 10/10. From 1996 to 1998 he attended the chamber music and orchestral programs of the Fiesole School of Music studying with Quartetto Italiano, Amadeus Quartett, Trio di Trieste, Trio di Parma and Trio della Scala, and studied cello with Amedeo Baldovino, Giacinto Caramia, Andrea Nannoni and especially Marianne Chen. During the same period he served as Principal Violoncello in the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana (O.G.I.), collaborating with prestigious conductors like Riccardo Muti, Giuseppe Sinopoli and Luciano Berio.

In 1999 he was chosen by Riccardo Chailly as Principal Assistant of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano ìG.Verdiî, a place he has held until 2007 as he moved to Spain at the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra. He has performed on tours in the most important concert halls of Europe, South America and Eastern Asia and he has played with many important conductors including L.Maazel, V.Gergiev, R.Barshai, C.Hogwood, L.Slatkin, H.Blomsted, H.Rilling, M.Rostropovich, F.Bruggen, L.Jia, V. Jurowsky, M. Honeck and C.P. Flor.

He has also been active in the realms of Pop and Jazz music collaborating with artists like Andrea Bocelli, Michael BublË, Luis Bacalov and Max Roach and has recorded for Philips, RCA, Sony, Decca and Deutsche Grammophon. 
An avid proponent of chamber music, Matteo plays with many string chamber ensembles and also frequently arranges concerts to promote the chamber music repertoire. In 2007, as member of Tenerife String Quartet, he performed Mendelssohnís Octet together with the Berlin Philarmonic Orchestra String Quartet.

From 2010 to 2011 Matteo has joined the International Music Conservatory of Indonesia in Jakarta (YMJ) as Head of strings department and throughout the 2012 he has been developing strings music in Surabaya (Indonesia) promoting concerts, master classes, teaching methods and music competitions.

In 2013 he has founded AMA (Accademia Musicale Armonica) in the city of Surabaya, the first music school in Indonesia to offer a western standard music education with the support of qualified teachers from abroad.
